Location: Onsite Waupaca WI
Position Summary: The Mold Repair Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on plastic injection molds and other manufacturing equipment. Fabrication of new parts for existing production equipment using hand sketches, blueprints, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) models. This position is responsible for performing and tracking preventative maintenance on process, assembly, and testing equipment. The Mold Repair Technician works cooperatively with other maintenance personnel and departments regarding maintenance and repairs of production equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Utilizing blueprints, written directions, verbal instructions, or sketches, plan the creation or modification of parts and molds. Employs standard hand tools, precision measuring tools and gauges, cranes, boring machines, along with other equipment to fabricate molds and parts.
- Performs routine inspections of molds utilizing precision measuring tools and gauges.
- Conducts repairs and maintenance following safety and quality requirements while ensuring OSHA compliance.
- Disassemble, clean, and reassemble molds as part of the preventive maintenance requirements. While conducting preventive maintenance makes minor repairs to tools and equipment. Notify appropriate personnel when major maintenance or repairs are needed.
- Apply 6S techniques to maintain a clean orderly work area.
- Plan shop tool set up while considering type of material and tolerances along with machine tool feed rate and speed.
- Set up and test molds to ensure the product meets specifications, performs necessary modifications, and provides solutions to complex tooling issues.
- Maintain accurate up to date records of time required for repairs along with equipment and materials used.
- Utilize records to determine priorities and implement cost reduction strategies.
- Evaluate and recommend the adaptation of applicable new technologies to enhance operational efficiency when feasible and practical.
Other Duties
- Assist with the design and updates to equipment.
- Provides training to employees regarding mold repair as required.
- Assists with repairs on other equipment in emergency situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Highschool Diploma/GED required.
- Tool manufacturing, tool maintenance, tool assembly, or tool repair experience is preferred.
- Experience with injection molding is preferred.
- CAD or Computer Aided Manufacturing software (CAM) understanding preferred.
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) or Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) Required
- Functional knowledge of the manufacturing process equipment is required.
- Knowledge of general production processes.
- Knowledge of tools, instrumentation, and test equipment.
- Working knowledge of industrial, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic control systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently without direct supervision.
- Strong ability to make recommendations on process and tooling improvements.
- Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and electric mold tugger.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to TIG and MIG weld.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, other computer programs, and technology.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on normal surfaces and sit; use hands for writing and keyboarding. Specific vision abilities required by this job include visual acuity sufficient to read a computer screen and paper documents. Acute hearing is necessary for phone and in-person communication with fellow employees and other contacts.
Working Conditions
This position typically functions in a production environment. There will be exposure to moderate noise levels, fumes, dust, chemicals, heat/cold, and allergens especially in the production environment.
