For the 2025–2026 school year, Gusmer Product Manager, Daniel Gusmer and Gusmer Technical Sales Rep, Eric May teamed up with two standout students to push the boundaries of brewing science through an ambitious Senior Capstone Project. Their focus? Harnessing the power of the Sysmex Flow Cytometer to elevate how yeast is measured and monitored in the complex environment of beer.

The result was a dynamic exploration of flow cytometry’s potential in brewing—bringing precision, speed, and insight to yeast analysis. Their innovative work culminated in an impressive poster presentation that earned 2nd place overall at the end-of-year showcase, underscoring both the impact and promise of their research.

And this is just the beginning. With plans to continue leveraging Sysmex technology at CSU—and expand the project even further in the years ahead—this initiative is paving the way for the next generation of brewing innovation!
